Gut Health, Menopause, and Midlife Weight Loss: My Interview on the Skirts Up! Podcast
2-minute read
If you've ever wondered if your bloating, constipation, or sudden weight gain is "just part of getting older"—you are not alone.
I recently joined the Skirts Up! Podcast to talk about the real struggles women face in midlife, especially when it comes to gut health, menopause, and losing weight after 40. We laughed (a lot), told the truth about poop, and tackled some common health myths holding women back from feeling their best.

Here are 3 of my juiciest take-aways from the episode…
1. If You're Only Pooping Once a Week… We Need to Talk
One of the biggest digestive complaints I hear from women is constipation—but here’s the thing: many of us don’t even realize we’re constipated.
💡 Healthy digestion means going #2 at least once a day. If you’re going once a week, straining, or relying on fiber supplements and laxatives to get things moving, your gut is waving a red flag.
We broke down the Bristol Stool Chart (yes, that’s a real thing), what your poop should look like, and why getting your digestive system back on track is often the first step toward healing fatigue, brain fog, and hormone chaos.
2. Why Cardio Might Be Sabotaging Your Weight Loss
Let’s bust a myth: cardio is not the best exercise for weight loss, especially for women over 40.
Too much cardio can stress your system, mess with your gut microbiome, and make midlife weight gain worse, not better. On the podcast, I explained why strength training is a smarter strategy for boosting metabolism, balancing hormones, and getting real results that last.
Whether you're in perimenopause or postmenopause, your body needs muscle more than it needs another spin class.
3. Do You Really Need a Probiotic?
We love a good wellness trend—but let’s be real: not everyone needs a probiotic supplement.
During the episode, I explained the difference between probiotic-rich foods (like fermented veggies, yogurt, and kombucha) and supplements—and when each is most helpful. Spoiler alert: if your gut health is already out of balance, just adding a capsule might not fix the root cause.
The best gut support is personal. I shared tips on how to know if your microbiome needs support and how to nourish your digestion naturally through food and lifestyle first.
